The (Iced) Pumpkin Spice CBD Latte

Colorful leaves rustling along the ground and cozy snuggling around the hearth. Autumn is here, according to the calendar. But the ongoing summertime weather says otherwise. Are you ready to enjoy fall, but the temperature is too doggone hot?

This pumpkin spice latte recipe satisfies your fall cravings while still keeping you cool. But more than that, you’ll get the health benefits of CBD – as well as those of honey, cinnamon, and ginger.

Cannabidiol (CBD), Honey, and Other Healthy Additives

CBD (cannabidiol) is a non-intoxicating extract from the cannabis plant. Preliminary clinical research shows it to be beneficial for anxiety, sleep, inflammation, and pain. In addition, mixing it into a beverage allows it to stay in the body longer than other methods, so more benefits are received.

Honey has less fructose than sugar — and anti-inflammatory properties. It raises blood sugar less quickly. In the same vein, studies show cinnamon reduces sensitivity to insulin and helps the metabolism. It may help regulate both blood sugar and pressure. Ginger helps with digestion, reducing gastric irritation and suppressing nausea.

This recipe both chills a well-known seasonal drink and gains the health benefits of CBD. It came from a medley of recipes blended to create the best combination to enjoy over ice. It is quick and easy in design. The ingredients may already be in your pantry or are readily available at your local supermarket. It was also adapted to lower the fat of the typical  “fancy coffee,” by utilizing honey as a natural sweetener. And in this specific recipe, the honey also boosts the CBD content.

An average introductory dosage of CBD is between 5 and 20 mg for most people. The 6 ounces of Colorado Hemp Honey coffee in this beverage contains approximately 5 mg. Equally important, the Colorado Hemp Honey Raw Relief honey stick adds another 15 mg of CBD. This gives each cold tasty beverage a total of 20 mg of CBD.

Ingredients and Instructions

The INGREDIENTS for Iced Pumpkin Spice CBD Latte are as follows:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 4 Tbsp pumpkin puree
  • 1 Tbsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 Tsp (one stick) honey (Colorado Hemp Honey Raw Relief Stick)
  • ¾ Tsp pumpkin spice extract

The INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Brew a pot of coffee and cool it in the refrigerator. (We recommend brewing a whole pot and storing it in an airtight container in the fridge. It’ll be ready to grab-and-go for a solid week.)
  2. In a saucepan, combine cream, pumpkin puree, and honey. Whisk on low heat until the ingredients dissolve.
  3. Remove from heat and add vanilla and pumpkin spice. Whisk again.
  4. Pour over ice in your chosen glass; Add 6 oz. of coffee and let it disperse throughout the cream.

Down the Hatch!

We chose cream over milk because, while it has more fat, it has fewer carbohydrates. Furthermore, cream makes a drink with a thicker, more velvety texture. (Using cream does make this drink more of a breve than a latte by definition.) If you want to use milk, however, use 1.5 cups, and simmer a little longer. Using milk will make the drink a bit sweeter. If it’s still not sweet enough, you can use a natural low-calorie choice like monk fruit or stevia.

Lastly, If you want to get fancy, you can add with whipped cream and dust pumpkin spice mix over the top. This recipe will give you and a friend two delicious 12-ounce drinks. Or two 12-ounce drinks all to yourself!

Happy Autumn to you all. Bottom’s up!
